Warner Bros. has officially announced MultiVersus, a free-to-play 2v2 platform fighter that is created from “an ever-expanding cast of iconic characters and legendary universes” from Warner Bros. franchises. The game is heading to PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC in 2022.

Players can choose any combination of characters as they team up to save the Multiverse from the opposing duo. Not only are the fighters drawn from Warner Bros. franchises, the arenas are as well. Batman’s Batcave and Jake and Finn’s Treefort are just two confirmed so far. A total of 13 characters have been announced for the roster already, each of which will have their own unique abilities and a customisable perk loadout so players can combine abilities effectively. There will also be a variety of costumes for each. And perhaps most notably, they are all voiced by top-tier and original voice talent. The roster so far is:

  • Arya Stark (Game of Thrones) – voiced by Maisie Williams
  • Batman – voiced by Kevin Conroy
  • Bugs Bunny – voiced by Eric Bauza
  • Finn the Human (Adventure Time) – voiced by Jeremy Shada
  • Garnet (Steven Universe) – voiced by Estelle
  • Harley Quinn (Batman) – voiced by Tara Strong
  • Jake the Dog (Adventure Time) – voiced by John DiMaggio
  • Reindog (brand new character for MultiVersus) – voiced by Andrew Frankel
  • Shaggy (Scooby Doo) – voiced by Matthew Lillard
  • Steven Universe – voiced by Daniel DiVenere
  • Superman – voiced by George Newbern
  • Tom and Jerry– voiced by Eric Bauza
  • Wonder Woman – voiced by Abby Trott

As well as the main 2v2 co-op mode, there will be more intense 1v1 matches or a free for all mode for up to four players. Those wanting to hone their skills can do so in the training mode, while the most practiced fighters will want to test their skill in Ranked Competitive mode. Players can even form guilds to compete against each other. MultiVersus will include cross-platform play and cross-platform progression, making it possible to play games anywhere and with anybody without losing your progress. Local co-op play is also supported alongside online matches with dedicated server-based rollback netcode.

Developer Player First Games has confirmed more characters, stages, modes, in-game events, skins and other content will be added post-launch. There will be in-game purchases although these weren’t detailed any further right now. Those already liking the sound of MultiVersus can sign up to join the playtests through the official website.

MultiVersus is set to launch sometime in 2022.
