Four games are being unceremoniously kicked off the Game Pass service today. They are, in no particular order, Rain on Your Parade (Cloud, Console and PC), MLB The Show 21 (Cloud and Console), The Long Dark (Cloud, Console and PC) and Pathway (PC).
It may not seem like the headliner of that lot, but Rain on Your Parade is the one we’re going to miss most. This wonderful little game has you playing as a raincloud as it completes objectives and sub-objectives in fun arenas. It’s not only about putting out fires or making things moist: the raincloud can absorb acid to make acid rain, fire to become a smokecloud, and electricity to be a lightning storm. Just when you think that Unbound Creations, the developers behind the game, have run out of ideas, they come back with a basket full of more.
We loved it in our review. We gave it 4.5/5, saying “this is an absolutely delightful, albeit short, romp through the life and times of a hero cloud, and Unbound Creations should be applauded for giving us the chance to ruin the day of others – all thanks to the power of the cloud.”
MLB The Show 21 has been outmoded by MLB The Show 22, so there is a more up-to-date alternative on Game Pass. But still, if you’ve been making your way through the game’s career mode, this might be something of a miss.
The Long Dark has been around for donkey’s years, emerging on Game Preview way back in 2017. Well, it’s also leaving Game Pass today, so you’re going to need to look elsewhere for your scavenging and hunting needs. We had good things to say about this one, albeit in a preview rather than review: “it’s a game that I will keep playing long after, and I can’t wait for more content. Now excuse me as I need to purify some water, repair my shoes and cook a rabbit.”
The one we know least about is Pathway, since it only came out on PC and Game Pass PC. It’s a turn-based squad combat game, set in a kind of alternate 1930s full of the occult and undead. It’s sitting on ‘Very Positive’ on Steam, so it may be one to start petitioning for on the Xbox.
All that’s left to say is that F1 2019 is leaving on April 18th. It’s 20% for Game Pass subscribers until the day it leaves, so now might be the time to pick it up. Go get it on the Xbox Store.
We’re expecting an influx of Xbox games in the second-half of April but – as of yet – there have been no announcements from Major Nelson, Phil Spencer et al. We will let you know more when we have it.
