Sony Interactive Entertainment broke the bad news yesterday that PSVR 2 isn’t backwards compatible, but according to a new report by a reliable insider, “tons” of developers are creating PSVR 2 versions of their PSVR 1 games. YouTuber PSVR Without Parole, who’s been spot on with their PSVR 2 reports, responded to a follower on Twitter who expressed disappointment over the lack of backwards compatibility, and claimed that PSVR 2 versions of some older games are in development as we speak. However, they didn’t reveal any titles.

Why isn’t PSVR 2 backwards compatible?

According to PlayStation Senior Vice President of Platform Experience Hideaki Nishino, PSVR 2 is much too advanced for older games and the company is committed to delivering a true next-gen experience. He said:

PSVR games are not compatible with PSVR 2 because PSVR 2 is designed to deliver a truly next-generation VR experience. PSVR has much more advanced features like an all-new controller with haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and inside-out tracking eye tracking in it, 3D audio is coming, and HDR, of course.

Sony can afford to ditch the original PSVR headset, too. Despite surpassing the company’s expectations, it remains somewhat of a niche product with a limited audience so any negative impact would be minimal. It’s not like PSVR 1 is anything close to the PS4 where the install base is far too significant to shun.

While PSVR Without Parole didn’t reveal what games are being remade for PSVR 2, we’re assuming hits like Astro Bot Rescue Mission are a lock. We’ll update our readers when we have more information.

In other news, EA admits that Battlefield 2042 strayed a little too far from the franchise, and Resident Evil 4 Remake is also headed to the PS4.
