The Splinter Cell remake might be more of a reimagining. A recent Ubisoft job listing for a scriptwriter on the project states that the studio is “using the first Splinter Cell game as our foundation” and mentions “rewriting and updating the story for a modern-day audience.”

Splinter Cell remake may be a lot different than the original

The full job listing (archive) for the Splinter Cell remake scriptwriter reads:

“Using the first Splinter Cell game as our foundation, we are rewriting and updating the story for a modern-day audience. We want to keep the spirit and themes of the original game while exploring our characters and the world to make them more authentic and believable. As a Scriptwriter at Ubisoft Toronto, you will join the Narrative team and help create a cohesive and compelling narrative experience for a new audience of Splinter Cell fans.”

The listing also states that the goal is “preserving what’s at the heart of the Splinter Cell experience.”

There are few one-to-one remakes – The Last of Us Part 1 is the closest we can remember. However, the job listing reads as though there might be a much larger difference between the original Splinter Cell and the remake than fans hoped.

However, there is a plausible reason for the storyline reasons. The original game centers around a conflict between Georgia and Azerbaijan that isn’t entirely dissimilar to the Russo-Ukrainian War that’s currently raging. It’s possible Ubisoft might want the plot to avoid the region entirely due to current events.

Unfortunately, almost nothing has been shown of the remake yet. Other than confirming its existence in December 2021, Ubisoft hasn’t given us any additional info about it.

In other news, recent Silent Hill and Metal Gear leaks were fabricated by a charlatan, and we know God of War Ragnarok’s download size on PS4 and it’s big.
