A stealth change made by Sony has removed the ability to see PS Plus Extra/Premium games’ expiry dates. The issue was first highlighted by Twitter user PS5Play_ and PushSquare, who noted that while ‘The Last Chance to Play’ tab is still in its place to warn users which games are about to leave the service, we can no longer see the exact dates when games will be removed. It’s unclear if this was a deliberate change or yet another PS Store glitch that Sony will quietly fix with enough hue and cry.
PS Plus catalog expiry dates aren’t highlighted on PS Blog
Microsoft has an excellent approach to Game Pass whereby it highlights when games are set to leave the service. Unfortunately, Sony doesn’t offer anything on the PS Blog beyond announcing new additions. This isn’t an issue for PS Plus Essential users since this tier has a set month-long lineup that players can keep forever as long as their subscription is active. But once games leave PS Plus Extra/Premium, there is no way to play them unless you fork out cash. And in rare cases like Red Dead Redemption 1, which we highlighted recently, you may lose the ability to play a game forever.
Here’s hoping Sony rectifies this.
Thanks, PS5Play_, PushSquare.
