Bayonetta 3, the latest instalment in the action-filled series, launches today for Nintendo Switch and is available via select retailers and directly through My Nintendo Store*. With the help of an ensemble of new and returning characters, the Umbra Witch must use her signature guns and magic arts to take on a new threat across numerous locations.
A mysterious evil in the form of man-made bioweapons called Homonculi has caused reality itself to be under attack, and Bayonetta is prepared to brawl them. However, she’s not alone in her battles against this existential danger as she teams up with both familiar faces and a bounty of Bayonettas to help her save the world. From the streets of Tokyo to the mountains of China, the unstoppable Umbra Witch will have to use an arsenal of demonic abilities to defeat her enemies in larger-than-life battles around the world.
As in previous Bayonetta games, players will guide the titular witch through various levels while fighting waves of enemies and bosses along the way by combining melee and gunplay attacks. In addition to slashing and shooting, players can dodge incoming attacks at just the right moment to trigger Witch Time. Witch Time allows Bayonetta to accelerate to the point where the flow of time around her appears slower. She can then counterattack enemies that are exposed in a defenceless state. Bayonetta also has some new arts in the form of Demon Slave and Demon Masquerade. With Demon Slave, players can take control of one of three equipped Infernal Demons during battle and unleash their demonic powers in the heat of combat. Meanwhile, Demon Masquerade has Bayonetta channelling the demon linked to her weapon to perform exciting new moves and hair-raising combos.
This time, players will also be able to take control of a whole new character named Viola. As a witch-in-training, Viola travels through the Multiverse to take on an important role given to her. Along with using her sword, she is accompanied by a capricious feline demon companion named Cheshire who can be summoned from the lucky charm strap on her sword during combat.
Players can freely alternate between Casual, Standard, and Expert difficulty modes at any time. A training mode is also available, letting players practise their skills and attacks outside of the story mode.
Alongside the standard edition of the game, a special Trinity Masquerade Edition is also available today. It includes a physical copy of the game, a 200-page full-colour art book, and three exclusive title sheets. There is one title sheet for each game in the franchise**, and they can be combined to form a complete panorama artwork.
