God of War Ragnarok update 3.002 for PS5 has been pushed today, January 23, with patch notes finally available. PS5 patch tracker ProsperoPatches on Twitter noted that the update went live at around 10:51 am PT, while the patch notes were somewhat delayed, going live at around 2:00 pm PT.

Update 3.002 is not the one with New Game Plus

According to the extremely short patch notes for update 3.002 on Santa Monica Studio’s official website, it “provides a partial fix to an issue where encounters may incorrectly respawn.” And well, that’s it. We wish it had more, honestly.

At any rate, the download as noted by ProsperoPatches requires that you have the 6.02 firmware on your PlayStation 5. For completeness, Santa Monica Studio calls this Patch Notes [v 03.02] in its database, following past convention.

There are a few early reports of the God of War Ragnarok 3.002 update on the game’s Reddit. One user says that it solves minor bug issues, including one that let the player continue the main story. However, another user claims that the update makes the game crash after a minute. Given how short the official notes are, though, it’s unclear if either instance is due to the update.

Likewise, Update 3.01 for the game was a rather simple update. It fixed an issue where the central sword didn’t appear properly if a player restarted from a checkpoint during a Muspelheim challenge, and fixes two crashes, albeit rare ones, that would occur during gameplay. By comparison, Update 3.00 was a sizeable patch that added Photo Mode and fixed multiple instances of Kratos or his companions getting stuck behind objects.

Santa Monica Studio previously announced that the much-request New Game Plus mode is scheduled to arrive some time in Spring 2023. Details are still thin about what the developer will be including in this mode, and whether you will able to your upgrades, weapons, and armor in subsequent playthroughs.
