After months of rumors, February 2023’s highly-anticipated PlayStation State of Play finally took place yesterday, but it left fans quite disappointed. Gauging feedback on various channels, the general consensus seems to be that the show was underwhelming, to say the least.

PlayStation State of Play marred by Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League

Sony dedicated a chunk of the event to Rocksteady’s Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which is already earning sharp criticism for its live service elements and forced online play even in solo mode.

It certainly doesn’t help that Suicide Squad’s showcase came at the heels of Marvel’s Avengers announcing end of post-launch support. The live service game, which lasted 2.5 years, is being de-listed in September after a lackluster launch and equally lackluster post-launch support.

“When the best announcement is the upcoming PlayStation Plus monthly games with the added Plus Extra/Premium games, you know the show itself was dull,” said one Reddit user. “They finally beat the leaker for once with this surprise announcement of the March PS Plus games!” said another.

Negative comments aside, fans unanimously praised the announcement of Baldur’s Gate 3, calling it the highlight of the show.

All eyes are now on the rumored “big” PlayStation showcase, which is supposedly set to take place around E3 2023.
