Following recent reports, CD Projekt RED has confirmed that The Witcher multiplayer game, code named Project Sirius, has not been cancelled. However, the game is back on the drawing board, indicating that it won’t release for a long time.

The Witcher multiplayer game being “re-evaluated”

In a recent earnings call, CD Projekt RED CFO Piotr Nielubowicz revealed that Project Sirius is “insourced,” suggesting that it’s still being handled by The Molasses Flood. He indicated that the studio wasn’t happy with the game’s direction and said that CD Projekt RED wanted to cut costs early.

“To stay competitive, we have to keep looking for new ways to extend our franchises,” Nielubowicz said. “At the same time, we need to be ready to reevaluate our original concepts, even if the development work is already underway.”

Nielubowicz was responding to stakeholders who had expressed concerns about the project. He acknowledged that it’s not “great” to hear that the game is being rebooted but it was a necessary decision to make “to stay in control and keep the right course, especially with a project that is new to us in terms of design, developed by a new studio in our family.”

Platforms for Project Sirius have not been announced.
