Call of Duty may well be one of the most important PS5 and PS4 franchises according to Sony, but it seems like EA actually accounted for more monthly active users over the last six months. This made EA the top Playstation and Xbox publisher by a clear margin, meaning they beat Activision and Epic Games.

Why is EA the top PlayStation and Xbox publisher?

FIFA 23 was the most engaging title throughout the six month period according to an analysis from Ampere Games (thanks GamesIndustry.biz). Throughout February alone, gamers played FIFA 23 on 35% of days for the month. Other games that continue to be popular include Madden NFL 23 and Need for Speed Unbound, while the releases of Dead Space and Wild Hearts also strengthened their catalog.

On the contrary, Activision received a visible boost in November due to the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2. However, this didn’t last long and they dropped back to third in the list. Epic Games stayed fairly stable throughout the six months buoyed mostly by the success of Fortnite.

Notably, both Final Fantasy 14 and Genshin Impact also had high levels of engagement throughout February, but neither Square Enix nor miHoYo feature in the top publishers.
