The keyart for Monolith: Requiem of the Ancients

An epic quest? A wondrous action adventure? Unforgettable characters. Multiple mysteries? Monolith: Requiem of the Ancients on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and PC promises much. And it’s coming in 2024.

Announced today by the indie development team at C2 Game Studio and their friends at Versus Evil (Stray Souls, Eville) is Monolith: Requiem of the Ancients on Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and PC platforms.

A wondrous adventure awaits

A third person action adventure you’ll get whisked off to a fantastical world of ancient ruins. In Monolith: Requiem of the Ancients you’ll be tasked with uncovering a ton of secrets. Why? Well, should you fail, the world will fall into darkness.

Due for release in 2024, Monolith: Requiem of the Ancients tells of the world of Gilese. It’s this place which is threatened by the darkest of forces from a forgotten time. And it’s here where Astor comes in. A young warrior, Astor must unearth the secrets of the past. He’ll do that by exploring majestic, mysterious ruins and ancient temples in an epic fight for the planet’s survival. Only he can gather the ancient powers and legendary weapons needed to stop an unholy ritual.

This is a game in which you’ll get to journey across an expansive, colourful world. It promises to be full of mystery and danger. Abandoned ruins and derelict temples from a long forgotten era pepper the landscape, teasing mysterious tales that you must uncover.

Aided in your adventure

But you won’t be alone and aided by an enigmatic presence, Astor will dive into an intricate storyline. The narrative will be filled with iconic and endearing characters, all at the fore as you set out on your journey. Explore deep forests, sprawling deserts, frozen tundras, and crumbling ancient structures as you embark upon a globe-trotting adventure.

There will be rich, satisfying combo-based combat included in Monolith too. The system in play will let you wield a variety of ancient weapons and special abilities. You’ll also get to take charge of the Runic Swarm to summon constructs, crush enemies with massive boulders, or protect Astor with a rock formation shield. Mastering light, heavy and ranged attacks, will be par for the course. As will swapping armaments on the fly, block and dodge with precision, and filling up your combo meter to unleash devastating finishers.

The devs chat about Monolith: Requiem of the Ancients on Xbox

“With Monolith: Requiem of the Ancients our goal is to create a mystical world full of whimsical characters and creatures, like the fantasy movies we grew up with back in the 80s and 90s. Beautiful, yet with a tint of darkness” said Luis Correa, Founder & game director at C2 Game Studio. “We wanted to marry a lush, stylized world with first-rate combat, and were inspired by titles like Kingdom Hearts, Devil May Cry, God of War and Nier Automata. Monolith is a love letter to all the grandiose action-adventure games that inspired us so much, both in our youth and to this day!”

“The Versus Evil team loved Monolith from the beginning, but it was the combat that really put it over the top for us,” said Steve Escalante, general manager of Versus Evil. “Today, there is no more credit for ‘it’s an indie game’ and teams have to meet that challenge, regardless of size or budget.  The C2 Game Studio team, together working with Versus Evil, is intent on blurring the line between AAA and indie. The graphics, animation, production value and scope of the project were miles beyond what I imagined such a small team could be capable of and we are proud to present Monolith as another quality RPG adventure to our line up.”
