Overwatch 2: Invasion is here

After five seasons of smaller-scale updates and additional content to the free-to-play hero shooter Overwatch 2, those chomping at the bit for a major expansion can finally rest easy. Overwatch 2: Invasion is finally here, and it’s time to take down Null Sector!

A Robotic Uprising

Releasing on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and PC, Overwatch 2: Invasion takes things to the next level in the OW universe. For those of you not in the loop regarding all things Overwatch lore, let’s fill you in. In the beginning, humans and Omnics – sentient robots – lived in harmony, until the Omnic Crisis occurred. Overwatch, a crack team of super-soldiers, was formed to put down the Crisis. Incredibles-style, Overwatch was then put into hiding, forced to integrate into society once again and put down their weapons for good.

Now, however, Null Sector poses an even greater robotic threat. Seeking to kidnap Omnics for some unknown ulterior motive, Overwatch must once again pull on their boots, and get blastin’ once again!

Story and Hero Missions

The Invasion expansion will introduce Story Missions to the series for the first time, allowing us to get fully immersed in the OW story within a number of PvE missions. Invasion features three story missions – set in Rio, Toronto and Gothenburg, and feature all-new enemy types, as well as complex objectives to complete. You’ll be able to jump in and complete these with an online squad.

Alongside the Story Missions exists a Hero Mission set in King’s Row, Great Britain. This mission has been developed with replayability at the forefront, and opens up new areas of the much-loved King’s Row map.

Flashpoint – A New PvP Mode!

Whilst Invasion ushers in a new era of PvE Overwatch, those concerned with the PvP side of things certainly haven’t gone unnoticed. Flashpoint is one of Blizzard’s most ambitious OW modes to date, featuring the largest maps in the game. Playing out as a Domination-type mode, in which two teams of five players compete for multiple control points (‘flashpoints’), this mode is the ultimate test of communication and strategy.

As Invasion launches, two Flashpoint maps will enter the PvP map pool – those being New Junk City and Saravasa.

Practice Range & Hero Mastery – A True Test

When waiting for friends to jump on for a few OW matches, Hero Mastery has your back. This mode provides a speedrunning challenge for every hero, and is set to come later in the Invasion season. Challenge your friends, and top the leaderboards!

Finally, the Practice Range is getting a huge revamp, and will be launching today, alongside the full Overwatch 2: Invasion expansion.
