Players are once again demanding PS5 themes after Sony rolled out a system update today introducing the ‘Welcome Hub.’ The Welcome Hub, which replaces the Explore tab, is currently only available for select players in the U.S. It gives us the option to change the Hub’s background image, which is the closest we’ve gotten to customizing any background on the PS5.

Will Sony ever bring back themes on the PS5?

The Welcome Hub is a dedicated space on the PS5 home screen where players can customize widgets for things like console storage, battery levels for peripherals, trophies, friends online, etc. In addition to this, the space can be personalized with either custom backgrounds or a range of designs provided by Sony.

Some of the designs come with “cool animated effects,” as explained on the PS Blog, and this has understandably led to players renewing demands for proper themes. Themes were arguably the best part of PS4’s home screen, many of which came with background music, dynamic time and date features, and more.

It’s truly a shame they never made it to the PS5, and at this point in the console’s life cycle, I’ll be surprised if Sony brings them back. Here’s hoping themes return with the PS6.
