Just yesterday, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered was rated by the ESRB, sparking rumors of a PlayStation State of Play happening next week. During a conversation on Giant Bomb’s Game Mess Mornings about the presentation, Jeff Grubb mentioned a “less exciting” PS5 remaster is in the works that could potentially show up. It seems Days Gone is that remaster.

Days Gone is the “less exciting” remaster

VGC host and writer Jordan Middler today posted about Jeff Grubb’s claims on X (formerly Twitter). Middler inferred Days Gone creative director and writer John Garvin would “lose his mind” about the remaster after remarks made about its protagonist’s inclusion in Astro Bot.

An X user then replied to Middler, writing, “ain’t no way they spent the resources to remaster Days Gone.” Middler simply responded with a gif saying, “you’d think,” implying the alleged “less exciting” remaster is the Bend Studio open world zombie game.

The incident Middler is referring to occurred last week, when Garvin criticized Bend Studio for allowing Days Gone protagonist Deacon St. John be turned into a cute little robot in Astro Bot. On X, Garvin said, “Kinda sad that Deek has been reduced to promoting other games . . . well done Bend Studio! Way to protect your legacy!”

Garvin has been somewhat of a controversial figure since Days Gone launched in 2019. In 2022, he blamed “woke reviewers” for its lackluster reception. Subsequently, Bend Studio issued a statement on social media that distanced themselves from Garvin.

Days Gone certainly fits the bill for “less exciting” remaster. It received mixed reviews at launch, garnering a 71 Metacritic score. However, in our review, Chandler Wood gave it a 9 out of 10. He says, “Sam Witwer is brilliant as Deacon St. John, and his journey of survival, humanity, and self-discovery through a deadly world via motorcycle is a memorable one that shouldn’t be missed.”
