Who said that text-based gaming was dead? Home Safety Hotline starts having conversations with Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch players today, delivering a hit of analog horror to the gaming masses. And it’s all just in time for the spooky season. 

Old-school horror

Created by Nick Lives and David Johnsen, two veteran gaming devs working under the Night Signal Entertainment studio, is Home Safety Hotline. Having previously released on PC, this anlog horror experience now comes to Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S (optimised), as well as PlayStation and Nintendo Switch. It’s priced at £16.74 from the Xbox Store. 

Pay up that asking price and you’ll find something a little different to the gaming norm. At least, it’s different if you weren’t gaming back in the 1980’s, as this one works text-based angles, delivering horror through words alone. 

It has you playing the part of a working in a 1990s call centre. You are left to dive into your PC, working the interface, answering calls and attempting to understand what is in their home. The things is, whilst that starts off easy, handling common pest problems, household hazards and suchlike, Home Safety Hotline soon goes deeper into the world of cryptic terror.
