Renowned video game voice actor David Hayter is teasing his return to Metal Gear Solid. The last time Hayter played a role in the beloved franchise was in 2010’s Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.

The tease comes from X (formerly Twitter).

“I was in the booth today,” says Hayter in his post. “Playing a role I’ve not played, since…” He then replies to his own tweet with a GIF of Naked Snake from Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater.

His use of the GIF doesn’t necessarily mean he is recording new lines for the upcoming remake. It doesn’t seem too likely, as the producers have stated that they are just putting some finishing touches on Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. It’s definitely possible though. We won’t know until something is formally announced.

In a recent interview with the Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater producers, Konami is currently trying to preserve the series. Metal Gear Solid Collection Vol. 1 seemed to be the beginning of that initiative. The upcoming remake is continuing what Konami started with that collection. Metal Gear Solid Collection Vol. 2 has been teased, but a formal announcement has yet been revealed. In a separate interview, Konami producer Noriaki Okamura did tease Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriot’s inclusion, but could not reveal anything at the time of the interview.

While all signs point to Hayter teasing his return as the Metal Gear Solid 3 protagonist, he has lent his voice to several video game characters. This includes Survive’s bartender in Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Lieutenant Renn in Dragon Age: Inquisition, and Mudokons in Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty. He’s also voiced in several television projects including CW’s The Flash as King Shark, and Spider-Man: The Animated Series as Captain America.
