Sony has been updating Concord game files on Steam’s back-end, leading to speculations that it’s preparing for the game’s return as a free-to-play (F2P) title. Although this seems like the logical next step, analysts and industry professionals have expressed doubts that going F2P will save the doomed multiplayer shooter.
Concord’s return as F2P game is the only option Sony has
Screenshots of Concord’s Steam database (taken from SteamDB) are being shared on Reddit, showing activity as recent as October 8. While we can’t decipher the changelog, gamers are convinced that Firewalk Studios is gearing up for an F2P release.
Having reportedly sunk millions into Concord, Sony doesn’t really have a lot of options to salvage the game, if that is even possible at this point. It doesn’t sound wise to spend more money on revamping a project that has been so thoroughly rejected by players that even its open beta saw abysmal numbers.
I’m no expert, but I see Concord’s return as an F2P game as the only viable option that Sony has left. How soon that’ll happen, though, is anybody’s guess.
Meanwhile, Concord dev Firewalk is reportedly bracing for impact after releasing what has been called one of the biggest flops in video game history.
