Atlus‘ newest JRPG Metaphor: ReFantazio just launched today for PS4 and PS5. It seems a whole lot of people were clamoring for it, as it has already reached 1 million copies on launch day.

Atlus announced its impressive 1 million sales milestone earlier today. This includes total worldwide sales of both packaged and download versions of Metaphor: ReFantazio. The company put out a brief statement thanking everyone for the support.

“Today, October 11th, Metaphor: ReFantazio total worldwide sales (packaged version shipped + download version sold) have surpassed 1 million copies,” says the translated statement.

“We would like to express our deepest gratitude to everyone who supported,” continues the statement. “We hope you will continue to support Metaphor: ReFantazio and Atlus Co, Ltd.”

The statement also mentions some of the newly release game’s early accolades. On Metacritic, the JRPG received between 91 and 93 depending on the platform. It also won the Future Division category at the Japan Game Awards in 2023 and 2024, which is voted by the public.

Our sister site ComingSoon.net gave the game a 9.5 out of 10, which is considered “excellent” on their scale. Tyler Treese’s review reads, “Metaphor: ReFantazio is a stellar role-playing game and one of the best to be released this generation. Atlus’ latest foray into fantasy provides familiar trappings for Persona fans while changing the formula up enough for it to fully be its own thing.”

Metaphor: ReFantazio is available for both PS4 and PS5 right now. PS5 players who are unsure if they want to commit to the $69.99 price tag can check out the free lengthy Prologue Demo. A Digital Anniversary Edition is available for $99.99, and includes the game, digital artbook, two digital soundtracks, Atlus 35th Digital History Book, and a Costume & Battle BGM Set.
