The PS4 port of Ape Escape 2 hasn’t fared well on PS5, due to technical issues plaguing the PS Plus Game Catalog game. However, it seems those problems may be fixed in the near future.

Ape Escape 2 PS5 rerelease may finally fix the port

As spotted by X (formerly Twitter) user Radec, the PS4 version of Ape Escape 2 is slowly getting delisted. The pictures, which you can see below, are from a player in Poland who had noticed the delisting. This may indicate that a version using PS5’s new emulation technology is in the works, and potentially fix the broken PS Plus Game Catalog game.

Like all rumors or speculation, take this with a grain of salt. As of this writing, the PS4 version of Ape Escape 2 is still listed on the U.S. PSN store. Additionally, a PS5 version has yet to be announced or listed. However, it should be noted that a similar situation happened with the recent Siren PS5 version, so it’s definitely a possibility.

Like other PS4 versions using PlayStation’s older emulator, Ape Escape 2 suffers some major performance issues on PS5. Players have reported severe flickering, as well as textures not loading in properly. If a port using PlayStation’s new and improved emulator is release, this should fix those issues.

Several games have already been brought to PlayStation’s updated PS2 emulator. Titles like Tomb Raider: Legend, Sly Cooper, and Siren have all received new versions for PS5. However, tech experts Digital Foundry found several issues with its updated emulator including poor upscaling, and some glaring bugs that hinder the re-releases.

Much of these games are included in the PS Plus Game Catalog available for Premium subscribers. The most recent additions include cult classic horror games Dino Crisis, and Siren. While Siren is available to purchase separately, Dino Crisis is only available for PS Plus Premium subscribers.
