The original Bayonetta launched in Japan on October 29, 2009, and with the series now celebrating its 15th anniversary, Mari Shimazaki, the artist who designed the title character, has now shared an artwork to X to mark the occassion.

“Congratulations on the 15th anniversary of Bayonetta and the 2nd anniversary of Bayonetta 3! Sorry it’s a WIP drawing, I drew it in between work. I wanted to make a soft and beautiful picture, but before I knew it, the contrast had become too extreme. I wanted to use the red, blue, and purple symbolic colors of 1, 2, and 3. I didn’t have enough time, so I’ll finish it before the 15th anniversary.”

In the West, Bayonetta made her debut on Xbox and Playstation in January 2010, but it wasn’t until 2014 that the series came to a Nintendo console for the first time through the Wii U.

Series creator Hideki Kamiya has since left PlatinumGames, with Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon being his last work for the series, but he has said that it will “probably” continue even if he’s no longer a part of it.

Curious on where the series might head next? Have anything you’d like to see the next game improve upon? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.
