Black Myth: Wukong developer Game Science has reiterated once again that Xbox Series S optimization issues are to blame for the game’s unintended PS5 exclusivity. A number of large publications continue to peddle a bizarre claim that Sony signed a “secret” exclusivity deal for Black Myth: Wukong — a rumor that vague Microsoft statements seemingly encouraged. However, as we’ve said, those reports have never made any sense.

Black Myth: Wukong director Feng Ji took to Chinese social media site Weibo (via ResetEra) to talk about the recent Steam Awards, where the game won the coveted Game of the Year 2024 prize. While reflecting upon the studio’s achievements, Feng Ji lamented the lack of an Xbox version.

“It seems a bit wrong but that 10GB shared memory, without a few years of optimization experience…” Feng Ji wrote in reference to the Xbox Series S memory.

Interestingly, Microsoft went on record to deny any knowledge of Black Myth: Wukong facing optimzation challenges on the Series S. “We’d prefer not to comment on the deals made by our partners with other platform holders but we can confirm that the delay is not due to Xbox platform limitations that have been raised to us,” the company told Forbes in a statement.

Well, we can put this rumor to rest for good now.
