CD PROJEKT has halted all sales of their games in Russia and Belarus following the Russian military invasion of the Ukraine, including Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher franchise. This includes digital sales and preventing physical copies from entering the two countries with immediate effect.

For how long will CD PROJEKT’s games be banned in Russia?

The CD PROJEKT group has decided to halt all sales of their games, such as Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher franchise, in Russia and Belarus from today, March 3. Sales will cease “until further notice”. CD PROJEKT has already begun working with their partners to stop digital sales from such as the PlayStation Store and Xbox Live Store, as well as to “cease physical stock deliveries of CD PROJEKT Group products”. The ban will also cover the sale of all games on their GOG platform in those two countries. The statement read:

The entire CD PROJEKT Group stands firm with the people of Ukraine. While we are not a political entity capable of directly influencing state matters, and don’t aspire to be one, we do believe that commercial entities, when united, have the power to inspire global change in the hearts and minds of ordinary people. We know that players in Russia and Belarus, individuals who have nothing to do with the invasion of Ukraine, will be impacted by this decision, but with this action we wish to further galvanize the global community to speak about what is going on in the heart of Europe.

The Polish developer had already made a statement on the war, being one of the first developers to make a donation to a humanitarian organization who is currently working in Ukraine. Others that have done so include Bungie, 11 bit studios, Raw Fury, Digital Extremes, Crunchy Koala, and more.

In other news, Elden Ring has become the biggest UK launch since 2018, excluding the regular Call of Duty and FIFA installments. The game sold more than 2.5x that of Horizon Forbidden West. Elsewhere, reports are claiming Quantic Dream’s Star Wars Eclipse will not be released until 2027-2028.
