CD Projekt RED president Adam Kiciński has said that the studio believes Cyberpunk 2077 will be seen as a “very good game” in the long run despite its rocky start. Kiciński also rubbished talks of CDPR’s acquisition following Cyberpunk 2077‘s disastrous launch, and insisted that the company will remain independent.

Kiciński made his remarks during an extensive interview with Polish newspaper Rzeczpospolita (translated by Video Games Chronicle). He acknowledged that Cyberpunk 2077 was CDPR’s “biggest, most ambitious” and “complicated” project in its 27-year history, but said that the team is still proud of “many aspects” of the game despite its shortcomings.

“We believe that in the long run Cyberpunk 2077 will be perceived as a very good game, and like our other titles, it will sell for years – especially as the hardware gets more powerful over time and we improve the game,” Kiciński said. “We’re working on updates all the time, and we’re also working on a version for the latest generation of consoles. Of course, the original release taught us a lot. It gave us a kick and motivated us to make changes that will make us better in the future.”

As far as a potential acquisition is concerned, CDPR has no plans to “become part of a larger entity.” “We have been saying for years that we plan to remain independent,” Kiciński said. “We are also not looking for a strategic investor.”

Kiciński revealed that CDPR has provisions in place to protect itself from a hostile takeover. That said, the studio is looking to expand by strategically acquiring other companies.
