What started off as universal praise has quickly devolved into a nightmare for Polyphony Digital as the ongoing Gran Turismo 7 issues only seem to be exacerbating players’ experiences. The game struggled to stay online and was inaccessible even to those wishing to play solo, and to make matters worse, the recent credit nerf has evoked backlash. Now, Gran Turismo 7 is getting review bombed on Metacritic, where its PS5 version holds a user score of 2.5 at the time of this writing.

Gran Turismo 7 issues explained

Polyphony Digital claims that it needs to ensure that Gran Turismo 7 players are connected to online servers at all times to avoid instances of cheating. This also applies to single-player modes. Unfortunately, this means that players get locked out of the game entirely should servers go down, which they did for a lengthy period of time just before the weekend. The developer has been unable to explain what went wrong, but called it a “rare” issue. To top it off, Polyphony Digital thinks in-game cars are priced fairly and has plugged a loophole that players were using to farm credits and purchase expensive rides. Now, players are stuck grinding excessively to unlock certain vehicles, with the developer showing no signs of adjusting prices.

Opinion: Gran Turismo 7 issues are an embarrassment for Sony

Zarmena writes… Sony already has a poor reputation when it comes to online/live service experiences and evidently still lags behind Microsoft. Gran Turismo 7’s issues only prove that the company still has a long way to go before it catches up to competition. That Polyphony Digital dismissed players’ concerns and doubled down on its stance isn’t a good look. That said, review bombings don’t hold much significance now especially because this is something angry internet trolls invented, and used and abused for silly reasons. I doubt Sony cares about all the 0/10 user scores that Metacritic will be cracking down on in due course anyway.

In other news, Polyphony Digital has doubled down on Gran Turismo 7’s credit nerf, and WB Games and Avalanche Software have confirmed that Hogwarts Legacy won’t have any multiplayer features.
