Despite a bit of backlash earlier in the year, it seems Sony‘s new emulation technology is actually improving several PS2 classics. The gaming giant has started improving previously available classics like Siren or Sly Cooper. The latest to benefit from the tech is yet another fan-favorite PS2 title.
Jak and Daxter the latest PS2 Classic improved by Sony’s new emulator
Sony has now improved one of PS2’s genre defining classics – Jak and Daxter. The game benefits from the tech, bringing better visuals to Naughty Dog’s 3D platformer.
According to Reddit users on the PS5 subreddit, many confirmed the improvements made to Jak and Daxter. Most notably, it seems the resolution has been greatly improved. There is a bit of debate regarding if it’s in native 4K, but the general consensus is that it’s a massive improvement from the original PS5 rerelease.
The new PS2 emulator was brought to the PS5 back in June 2024. Unfortunately, its launch was not the smoothest. Technical tests from Digital Foundry revealed poor upscaling, glitches, and jittery performance. Some of the technical flaws ranged from a stretched final image to missing music. It was definitely

However, it seems Sony has been quietly improving the emulator since its launch. Back in August 2024, players began to notice significant improvements to the tech. Earlier this month, PushSquare confirmed through their own analysis that there is definitely a boost in image quality.
PS Plus Premium users arguably benefit from these improvements the most. Thanks to the Classic Catalog, subscribers can enjoy PS2 games like Jak and Daxter, Sly Cooper, and Timesplitters at no additional cost. However, many of these games are available to purchase individually, so it’s good to see Sony putting effort into this tech so everyone can enjoy it.
