Sony has quietly updated several PS2 classics available on the PS5 and PS4 via its new and improved emulator. The patches added new video options to the games, allowing players to change their aspect ratios.

Players have reported that a number of PS2 games including the Sly Cooper trilogy and Jak and Daxter received updates over the last week, indicating that the patches are being rolled out to all PS2 games.

Previously, PS2 games looked a bit stretched out on current-gen platforms as their aspect ratio was set to the default 4:3 for 16:10 instead of 16:9. Now, players can choose 4:3 for 16:9, meaning that the image isn’t stretched out anymore.

What’s more is that some games are now set at 4:3 for 16:9 by default. However, according to Reddit user Rook22Ti, for some reason, turning off the wide screen option in Jak and Daxter requires booting up the game, going into the in-game menu, and then selecting the newly available aspect ratio via the emulation settings.

Another user reported that the new video options also appear in Blood Omen 2, so any PS2 classics that have yet to be updated are likely in the process of being patched.
