Like the standard PS5, the PS5 Pro also ditches the famous ‘8K’ label that Sony slapped onto console boxes back in 2020. The company quietly scrubbed the label earlier this year, presumably after realizing that it’s still a pipe dream when it comes to console gaming. The move didn’t go unnoticed, and those who got their their hands on the PS5 Pro were quick to point out that the 8K label didn’t make a return.

PS5 Pro box doesn’t carry the 8K tag, but it does boast a brand new label

PS5 Pro’s box comes with a new label that would, up until now, be difficult to imagine on a Sony console: ‘DISC-FREE Console.’ That’s right: the box proudly advertises the Pro’s digital status complete with a symbol of a disc crossed out, as highlighted in this ResetEra thread.

PS5 Pro does support a disc drive (sold separately), but it doesn’t come equipped with one like the standard console. This is quite a departure for Sony, but one that’s understandable considering that a majority of PlayStation content sales are now digital.

That said, most of the PS5s sold thus far are disc editions. Regardless of whether players prefer disc or digital downloads, they’re understandably opting for a console that gives them both options.
