The PS2 horror game Siren was recently rated on the Korean Game Rating Board. While it is unclear what exactly this release will be, fans are currently speculating it may just be a rerelease running on PS5’s PS2 emulator.

Is the Siren rerelease coming to PS5?

In a recent post about Siren’s recent rating on the GamingLeaksAndRumors subreddit, user -LastGrail- points out the description is similar to the PS2 classic. However, the game is already available through PS4’s PS2 emulator. This has led many to believe this newly rated Siren game is just a re-release for PS5’s PS2 emulator.

There are some other theories that may suggest it is more than just a rerelease of a PS2 game. Back in July, new job listings for PlayStation Studio Firesprite appeared on LinkedIn. These revealed the studio its working on a “dark” AAA game with a “heavy focus on art, animation, and delivering unique character performances to heighten player presence and immersion to new levels.” Another job description mentions photorealistic visuals, and “AAA quality creatures.” Many of the descriptors suggest a horror game is in the works from Firesprite.

Back in early August, in a report from MP1st pointed out by Gameranx, they claim Firesprite’s horror game is a new entry in the Siren series. Much of their claim is based on a resume from a previous Firesprite employee that said they designed characters, and branching plot lines “within pre-established IP.”

Of course, like any rumor or leak, take the information with a grain of salt. Until a Siren rerelease is revealed, this is all just speculation.

Sony recently revised its PS2 emulator for PS5 this year bringing games like Sly Cooper, and Tomb Raider: Legend to current gen hardware. However, its launch was marred by technical issues. Some of the most recent PS2 offerings for PS5 include the entire TimeSplitters trilogy, bringing the beloved shooters to modern consoles.
