Naughty Dog’s co-president Neil Druckmann appeared briefly during Sony’s CES presentation to confirm the studio has multiple game projects in development and they’re “dying to share” them with us. According to renowned leaker Tom Henderson, a common rumor is one of those projects is a remake of The Last of Us.

When Will The Last of Us Remake Be Released?

According to Henderson, The Last of Us remake is nearly finished and is expected to be released during the second half of 2022. The game is supposedly in development for the PlayStation 5. This isn’t the first time we’ve been told of a remake of the game as it first surfaced amongst reports of the mishandling of an internal studio called The Visual Arts Service Group. The project began at that internal studio and they even completed a prototype of the game to showcase to Sony. However, Sony initially deemed the remake to be too expensive before reconsidering their stance and handing the project to Naughty Dog.

The other rumored project in development is The Last of Us II Director’s Cut although there are no details on this one at the moment. A third project in progress at Naughty Dog is The Last of Us multiplayer project. The developer confirmed its existence last year but pleaded with fans for more time to work on the project before its official reveal.  Neither of these projects have a release window at the moment. Of course, there’s also Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection that’s due to be released on PS5 on January 28 and on PC at a later date.

In other news, Sony headed to CES 2022 to properly reveal the PSVR 2 headset and new Sense controllers for the PlayStation 5. In the same presentation, they also unveiled the much-rumored Horizon VR project, now officially called Horizon Call of the Mountain and exclusive to PSVR 2.
