Weird West has been delayed again and will now be hitting PC and consoles on March 31, 2022. The game will no longer be releasing in January as publisher Devolver Digital revealed it “is incredible (according to beta testers) but needs some wonky moments ironed out (also according to beta testers)!

The game has been in development since 2019 when one of Arkane Studios’ co-founders, Raphaël Colantonio, formed WolfEye Studios and began work on the action RPG. Weird West was originally scheduled for fall 2021 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, but its first delay pushed it to January 11. It seems like the beta testing didn’t go as well as planned as Devolver Digital explained in a longer statement.

Early feedback is fantastic but, as is the case with any immersive sim, there are a lot of variables that can lead to unintended consequences. More time is needed to deliver an experience that the community expects from WolfEye and Devolver. The team understands that this might be a disappointment to folks, but want to ensure that the game they’ve worked on for years is launched in the best form possible.

Alternatively, you can watch Colantonio explain the situation himself in the game’s latest video:

Weird West is a dark fantasy version of the wild west. Not only do cowboys and bandits roam the land, there are plenty of weird and terrifying creatures to be found too. Players will control five characters who each have their own abilities to help them survive in the hostile landscape and their own story to tell. These stories will eventually come together as bigger mysteries are uncovered. Players’ choices will effect the outcome of events, so make sure to choose wisely. Repeat playthroughs will even tailor themselves to previous player choices for an “ideal dramatic arc”.
