Deck Nine Games & Square Enix held a livestream today for the newest game in the Life is Strange series, and capped it off with an 18-minute long gameplay sequence that has now been uploaded to the series’ YouTube channel. It depicts Max Caulfield, the first game’s protagonist, returning alongside her friend Safi- who has fallen victim to a murderer on the loose. Using her powers to rewind time once again, Max jumps between two timelines to solve the mystery and save her friend.

Double Exposure will continue off of Max’s time in Arcadia Bay by making both of the original games’ endings canon. According to information divulged during the stream, players will be able to choose which ending they want to run with, which is a considerate way of keeping the first game’s choices relevant while also giving this sequel greater room to spread its wings. It’s in some ways reminiscent of Telltale’s The Walking Dead, the final season of which let players “redo” their choices from previous seasons and decide which version of Clementine they would like to play as. Depending on your choice of ending, Max’s journey here could take wildly different paths, though not much has been confirmed on that front.

The game will reveal its true colors on October 29th, but the Switch version’s release date is so far undisclosed. Current listings on the Square Enix webstore and Amazon only offer the Standard Edition for Switch, along with a placeholder date of December 31st. Notably, the Ultimate Edition, which comes with a two-week period of early access to the game, has not yet been made available for Switch users. But with time, both the culprit behind this murder mystery and the answers to fans’ questions will be made clear.
