It has been yet another fun-filled week here at Nintendo Life and we are ready to once again hit the ol’ games this weekend.

In the past seven days we have had The Game Awards (and the absence of any Tears of the Kingdom news thereof), a brand new wave of courses and bonus features in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and the news that Nintendo might just be getting a dose of Call of Duty action in the coming years. We also had a chance to sit down with the creators of Cuphead who spoke about all things gaming, animating and Netflix-ing.

There’s also been a good amount of content on the reviews front this week, as we went back to JRPG basics with Dragon Quest Treasures and played a few hands of spooky cards in Inscryption.

Now, a selection of our fabulous writers have come together to share which games they will be spending time with this weekend. Have a read through our plans before sharing your own in the comments below!

I’ve been playing some more Signalis after trying it on Game Pass a few weeks ago, and I’m no longer a wimp about it! I’ve also got Ghost Song on the docket, and I’m a sucker for a Metroidvania, which means I’ll probably end up enjoying this one. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is also on the cards, since I haven’t tried the new courses yet! Maple Treeway is a favourite so I’m excited to revisit it.

The one new release I’m treating myself to this weekend is Chained Echoes. This looks like a pretty brilliant SNES-inspired JRPG with snappy turn-based combat, and I’ve been hearing some excellent things about this one. Stay warm, folks!

After spending literal hours trying to defeat the final boss in Metroid Dread, I have finally beaten it! Here’s my hot take: it’s a very good game. However, this does mean that I am now in the mourning period that only comes when you finish a game in which you were completely invested.

In this state of woe, I have been enjoying working through Beacon Pines so far this week and will probably cap that off this weekend – is there a greater contrast to Metroid? I also have Signalis downloaded and ready to go, so perhaps I will be dipping my toe into that one when I find time. Just so long as I am allowed to keep the lights on throughout…

Alex Olney, Video Producer

I’ve had almost entirely busy weekends for the past six weeks or so, so I am gagging to chow down on some serious video gaming goodness. I recently downloaded A Plague Tale: Requiem thanks to Game Pass so may well give that a bit of a whirl, and no doubt there’ll be some Splatoon 3 thrown in for good measure. I’ve also been meaning to get back into Stardew Valley‘s excellent multiplayer rather than simply staring mindlessly at yet another Star Wars series, so if I can kick start that habit again, I’ll be a tremendously happy bunny.

Kate Gray, Staff Writer

This weekend I’m going to be playing Sea of Thieves with my pirate crew. Yarrr. We’re very good at Sea of Thieves except when I “accidentally” set the boat on fire.

Other than that, I’m playing Disney Dreamlight Valley and Metal Gear Solid V! Those are two VERY different games but I’m enjoying them as a pairing. Also, imagining Kojima’s version of Dreamlight Valley…

This week, I’ve restarted New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe on the Switch, partly because I wanted to just chill out with something easy-going, and partly because I’m trying to manifest a brand new 2D Mario game from Nintendo. Come on, it’s about time, right? Just not in the “New” style though, please…

Otherwise, I’m not playing much at the moment! With the reveal of Hades II, I might jump into the original game again for a few rounds, we’ll see.

Surprising no one I am knee deep into Front Mission 1st: Remake. Will dab a bit more into New Joe & Mac Caveman Ninja along with some Splatoon 3 amiibo reward grinding. I confess to have been neglecting this week’s eShop releases but I surely need to check out Chained Echoes at the very least. Gamecube disc tray still spinning with Virtua Striker 3 ver. 2002 world cup fever.

Game of the Week is Dragon Quest Treasures. I simply can’t find anything not to love about this game except the fact that I only have few days to complete it before Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion arrives next week. Kindly space your RPG releases better, Square-Enix senpai.
