Antstream Arcade gets two new games

What do you want to do with your Antstream Arcade subscription this week? How about a bit of boarding? Or maybe some beating back of an alien invasion? Perhaps both?

Once again the Antstream Arcade library is expanding this week with a couple more retro titles. Playable on Xbox or PC, the world’s largest retro library of games, readily streamable, has now been upped by two – and crackers they are too.

No matter whether you have a 12-month long sub, or a permanent option, Antstream players today get access to Megalopolis SOS and Snowboard Championship. And if those aren’t your cup of tea, then perhaps the new Most Valuable Figurine challenge in BioMechanical Toy (Arcade) will be.

So, new games…

Megalopolis SOS

Originally released on the MSX back in 1983, Megalopolis SOS comes to Antstream.

This is a fixed screen shooter in which the player must defend the major cities of Earth against alien attack. Think original Space Invaders and you’ll be close as Megalopolis SOS sees you utilising a cursor to take down alien ships attacking from the top of the screen.

Alongside a usual projectile missile, the player can also fire what the game calls “floaters” which are a mine of sorts that will explode on contact with an alien ship. Along the bottom of the screen are representations of major Earth cities that will fall to ruin if they take enough damage. Save these major cities, such as London, New York City and more, by removing the alien threat.

Snowboard Championship

Snowboard Championship landed as a Gaelco arcade game back in 1997. It promises to replicate the thrill of racing down a snow-covered mountain on a snowboard (retro snowboarding of course), with the player having to react to on-screen prompts showing upcoming turns.

It is all about the time on the various courses available in the game, as you look to go picking the perfect line and avoiding obstacles to maintain high speed.

In Snowboard Championship you’ll find three different snowboarders to choose from, representing Japan, US and Europe. And there are two different modes too, so strap on your board, adjust those goggles and show the mountain who’s boss.

“Space Invaders will have been the first experience of gaming for many people, and Megalopolis SOS is a great variation on that classic gameplay. And who wouldn’t enjoy snowboarding at the arcades with the Snowboard Championship. Again, these are two great additions to the Antstream library of retro games, and they are sure to become firm favourites with the players.” – Steve Cottam, CEO of Antstream.

Which will you be playing this week?

If you don’t have an Antstream Arcade subscription, get that sorted by heading to the Xbox Store
