It is the time to go Back to the 90’s with Forza Horizon 5 and the latest instalment in the Festival Playlist Weekly Challenges. We reach Series 39 and Summer, the 39th week of challenges since this game launched. Seems like it has been a while, doesn’t it? Both since it was the 90’s and Series 1…

Whatever, I’ll look to bring together everything you need in order to complete the challenges in Series 39, providing cars and tunes to help you out. We may even have a giggle along the way, but no promises!

Part 1: Weekly Car Challenge – Mechanical Mastery

The subject of this new week’s weekly challenge is a Ferrari, one that was designed for the 50th anniversary of the company. Yes, it’s the Ferrari F50!

Only 349 of these cars were made in the real world, but luckily virtual ones are a lot more common.

Should you not have one already, go and buy it from the Autoshow – they will exchange it for 2,000,000 of your credits. It is also the prize for completing the Trial, so maybe do that now?

Chapter 1 – Buon Compleanno!

Get in your new car, take it for a spin. Step one complete.

Chapter 2 – Formula 1

Win 6 stars at speed zones, because this car has an engine based on the Formula 1 one. Or something.

Chapter 3 – Road Racer

We have to win a Road Sprint Race now.  In stock trim this car handles nicely, so no need to spend any money!

Chapter 4 – Recipe for Success

Now merely take a picture of the car.

Complete these tasks and we will be five points closer to the seasonal prizes that are up for grabs with Forza Horizon 5’s Festival Playlist Weekly Challenges for Series 39.

Part 2: Weekly Challenges, Championships and PR Stunts

With the weekly challenge done and dusted, let’s dive into the rest of the mayhem on offer.

The Trial, Eventlabs, a few PR Stunts, lots of races – that’s what you are getting with Series 39 Summer. All with an authentic 90’s feel, too…

The Trial – Face Off

We’re on a huge roll and once more I found a team that has actually raced and not played dodgems – I never thought I’d see the day!

This week the theme is 1990’s Supras vs Skylines – and while I do love a MK IV Supra, I have to side with the Skyline. But which is Cage and which is Travolta? Anyway, I went with a Skyline GT-R from 1992 and the share code is : 135285831.

Let’s hope the racing gods smile down on us this week, as we attempt to win a Ferrari F50. Handy.

Eventlab 1 – TEEWUZ Presents The Refinery

Super Hot Hatches to a maximum of B Class 700 is the theme here, so I went with a stock Civic Type R from 2016.

An atmospheric track, with some nasty corners. Mind you don’t fall in the sea!

A Super Wheelspin is the prize.  Again.

Eventlab 2 – DMFDXGAMER Presents Jurassic Dragon Rally

We need an A Class Modern Rally or Rally Monster for this event, so as always it is a Hoonigan Cossie V2 that gets the nod. Share code : 140648350.

A very fast, enjoyable course, with one or two dinosaurs. I liked this one. The best thing? We can win A DINOSAUR SUIT!

Eventlab 3 – TAZERPHAZE Presents GT Cup

Extreme Track Toys to a limit of S2 Class 998 means that it is time for the Bugatti Divo, share code is : 169915677.

Too wet, too narrow and too many hairpins for the class of car – Not a fan of this one.

We can win a Hoonigan RS200 for triumphing here.

PR Stunt 1 – Danger Sign – Hotel

This week, all the PR stunts need the same car, an S1 Class 900 British car from the 90’s. I chose a TVR Speed 12 (because why wouldn’t you!?) and the share name is “12” with my GT, Red620Ti.

Jump over 150m to win, yet another Super Wheelspin. For a change.

PR Stunt 2 – Speed trap – Autopista

We need to hit the trap at over 220 mph for this challenge.

The Speed 12 tops out at just over 260 mph, so this is a piece of cake.

Another Super Wheelspin awaits.

PR Stunt 3 – Speed Zone – Airfield Speed Zone

For this event, an average of 155 mph is needed. Same as the event above, I fancy.

Another Super Wheelspin?

Seasonal Championship 1 – Seems Reasonable

Cars that cost less than 30,000 credits is the theme here, and tuned to B Class 700. I went with a Celica GT-4 ST185, and the share name is “ST185” with my Gt Red620Ti.

For winning, it is a ‘ 93 Ford Mustang we can take home.

Seasonal Championship 2 – 90’s Icons – Subaru 22B

Subaru and B Class 700 means one thing to me, a BRZ. The share code for mine is : 139235813.

For winning out, we can take home a Subaru 22B, surprisingly!

Part 3: Other Challenges

A good mix of things to try this week, with a photo, a treasure hunt, some Hide and Seek, an Eliminator and Playground Games.  Let’s see what we need to do!

Photo Challenge – #DRESSEDTOIMPREZZA

This week we are back to at least taking pictures of cars, with the Subaru 22B being first in the spotlight. If you don’t have one, win the “90’s Icons : Subaru 22B” race championship.

Enjoy my artistic effort up at the top of this piece.

The reward? A new clothing item, “90’s Outfit”.

Treasure Hunt – High Snakes Racer

The clue reads “This 90’s muscle car has venom in its name, its poison isn’t deadly but it can be hard to tame. Take to the drag strip, victory is your aim, doing this successfully and the treasure you will claim!!”.

The picture shows a Ford Cobra SVT R, and so we need to win a drag race in it. If you don’t have one, win the “Seems Reasonable” championship to acquire one. My tune is B Class, and the share name is “SVT” with my GT, Red620Ti.

The chest contains 90,000 credits, and the location is shown below.

The Eliminator – Battle Royale

Survive into the top 30 of the players to win out. You do you!

We will get a new Forzalink phrase “Donkey!”. You have no idea how many times I’ve shouted that in my Forza career…

Hide and Seek

As has been the case for the last few weeks, it’s time to play the much hyped new game mode, Hide & Seek. No pointers here, mainly because it is super simple.  It is a lot easier to be a Hider than a Seeker…

Take home a Super Wheelspin, to add to the collection.

Horizon Arcade – Mini Games

Complete round three of any of the various mini games on offer : drift, speed, choad, wreckage or air.

No tunes as it depends on what you choose, but the Formula Drift Mk IV Supra can help you boss a drift event on your own.

We can take away 3 whole points!

Part 4: Hot Wheels Events

If you have the Hot Wheels expansion and are an Elite Level player, then you get to enjoy a couple of extra events.

Seasonal PR Stunt – Speed Zone – Frozen Rush

The vehicles for the PR Stunts in the next two sections are the same – an A Class Italian Car from the 90’s. I went with a stock Lamborghini Diablo SV.

Average over 142 mph to win. This is pretty tricky, a rear wheel drive car on ice, but going downhill seemed easier.

A Super Wheelspin is your reward.

Seasonal Championship – A Can-Yon Do Attitude.

Retro Muscle cars, from the 90’s, only tuned to B Class 700. Sounds like a small choice, right? Well, I had two cars to choose from, and went with the Ford SVT Cobra R from 1993. Share name for it is “SVT” with my GT, Red620Ti.

Completing the championship will get us a Mazda RX-78.

Part 5: Rally Adventure Events

The Rally Adventure expansion brings even more events to the roster and provided you are already a Horizon Badlands champion, you’ll get access to the following couple of events…

Seasonal PR Stunt – Speed Trap – Orogrande Rush

Same car rules. Same car!

Hit the trap at over 130 mph to win out.

The prize is another Super Wheelspin.  Sigh.

Seasonal Championship – Whats the Hatch?

We need a Retro Hot Hatch from the 90’s tuned to C Class 600. I chose the VW Golf GTI VR from 1998, and the share name is “MK3” with my GT, Red620Ti.

The reward for racing? An Audi RS2.

The rewards for Series 39 and Summer in Forza Horizon 5

With Series 39 just kicking off, we have some new cars to work toward: the Mercedes Benz 500E for 80 points and a GMC Typhoon for 160 points. No exclusive cars this time, sadly.

Even more Rivals circuits have now been added with Series 39 – and we are back to only two this week – Chihuahua Circuit and Emerald Circuit.  The prize total stays the same though, 4 points for making sure you turn in a clean lap.

Grab enough points and Series 39 Summer also sees you given access to the Toyota Soarer for 20 points.  Additionally, for 40 points we can get a Backstage Pass, and no, I don’t know what that is either!Better than the traditional way of getting a backstage pass, mind…

With Summer done, tune in next week for the next week of Back to the 90’s, followed by Winter and Spring.

To enjoy these events in the Festival Playlist Weekly Challenges, you’ll need a copy of Forza Horizon 5.  It’s available on Game Pass, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC and on the cloud via mobile. The Xbox Store will sort you out with a download.

Let us know in the comments if I have helped, hindered or missed the mark with these tunes.
