Ghost Recon Frontline is headed to Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, and it’s bringing the venerable tactical-action franchise into a whole new arena — specifically a large-scale multiplayer one. A free-to-play, PvP-focused first-person shooter, Ghost Recon Frontline drops more than 100 players onto Drakemoor Island, a massive, open-world combat zone with multiple biomes.

In the flagship Expedition mode – one of several modes available at launch – players will split into teams of three and complete dynamic objectives across the map, all while contending with rival teams and using a large variety of tactical tools, including sensor grenades, drones, turrets, and sniper towers. Once they’ve collected enough intel, they can rally at one of the drop zones and call for an extraction… which will alert every other player on the map, and throw the extracting team into a pitched battle to escape with what they’ve grabbed and win the match.

Centered not on Ghosts but on customizable military contractors, Ghost Recon Frontline features a system of complementary classes, letting players tailor their abilities to different playstyles. Three classes have been revealed so far, with more coming at launch: Assault, a tough class ideal for close-range combat; Support, which has fortification abilities and can make it easier to dig in and defend a position; and Scout, which can recon areas to reveal and harass enemies from a distance. Progression comes from increasing your contractors’ weapon proficiencies and unlocking more recruits, and players will be able to swap between their contractors during a match – even in the middle of a fight, under specific conditions – to adjust their tactics on the fly.

Ghost Recon Frontline was revealed as part of Ubisoft’s Ghost Recon 20th Anniversary Showcase, and it wasn’t the only announcement: Between October 5 and October 11, Ghost Recon Wildlands players on Xbox One can redeem and download the Fallen Ghosts DLC for free, and Ghost Recon Breakpoint players can grab the Deep State DLC at no charge.
