Even though Ogre Tale has been doing the rounds on various other platforms for a few years, it is a game that has passed us by. That is until now, as Ogre Tale launches on Xbox (and other consoles) in two different forms.
Previously only on Steam, Ogre Tale from GameLoop and MAGES now lands on console, playable across Xbox systems, those PlayStations and on Nintendo Switch. A game that focuses on Japanese styled swordplay battle action (their words, not ours), if you are a fan of the Far Eastern ways, or just want to slash your way to some kind of victory, it should well suit.
A mix of genres
Priced at £14.99 on the Xbox Store, dive yourself into Ogre Tale and you’ll come up against a game that attempts a few things. There’s some action role-playing for one, with hack-and-slash elements to help build things up. But then, arcade-styled swordplay also comes to the fore, as you take on the role of the Onikko Three Sisters. These are descendants of an old demon tribe, left to carry on traditions by taking the fight to all evil.
What this means in play is that you’ll be found attacking, jumping, dodging, and pulling off the most special of moves, utilising character skillsets and weapon abilities. And in terms of the latter, the rarer the weapon, the better it must be…

Ogre Tale on Xbox is available in two different forms. There’s the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S version that lets you play across consoles. But then there’s also the Xbox Series X|S version of Ogre Tale, only playable on Series consoles, fully optimised to make the most of their power. Both are priced at £14.99.

Ogre Tale Description
Ogre Tale is a mission-completion type action role-playing game that combines an arcade-like swordplay action game and a hack-and-slash game with training elements. Set in modern Japan, players take on the role of the “Onikko Three Sisters,” descendants of a demon tribe, as they fight against demons. There are more than 50 missions, and you will be exterminating yokai in various regions of Japan. In addition to the basic actions of attacking, jumping, dodging, normal attacks, and special moves, characters can perform a variety of actions by setting skills in weapon slots. The rarer the weapon, the more slots it has, so you can customize it to suit your play style by combining a variety of skills. The game also supports online co-op play for up to three players, with six online missions to choose from.
