With all the Call of Dutys, Forza Horizons and Halos of the world, perhaps sometimes all we truly want is a real old-fashioned title, and 8 Bit Legit – the brand new partnership between devs Retrotainment Games and Mega Cat Studios – are delivering just that with Trophy.

Previously released on a genuine cartridge so you can play it on your genuine NES – just make sure to wipe of the dust first – Trophy has now made its way over to Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. You will be assuming control of the lovable robot Trophy, as he makes his way through all manner of terrain, including the dreaded platforming water level, in order to save the planet Gearus 9 from the clutches of the awful Lord Q.

In typical retro platformer action, expect to be running, jumping, and even zero gravity-ing across levels, gradually upgrading Trophy in the long-term, with short-term power-ups aiding you in your battle against Lord Q’s minions. Think Mega Man and you won’t be too far off. Such minions include the multitude of bosses you will be facing up against; the largest bosses ever seen on the NES console. We’ve got a clown, a giant anvil-type thingy, and a terrifying robot spider to take down, amongst many others.

“We are so excited to see retro grow so much this past year. It’s unprecedented – and there was no better timing to unveil our not-so-secret love affair with Retrotainment Games than in conjunction with the release of Trophy”, said James Deighan, Founder of Mega Cat Studios. “ Trophy strikes the right chord of high quality, authentic retro that has lasting power. This is just the beginning, and we cannot wait to announce the release schedule of games to the community”

Further features of Trophy include:

  • Nine levels of intense, platforming action
  • Experience authentic retro gameplay
  • Explore diverse environments and terrain
  • Blast your way through large, fully-scrolling levels
  • Search for hidden areas and power-ups
  • Parallax scrolling
  • Cut-scene narrative segments
  • Password system
  • Face off against nine GIANT bosses

If you are yearning to throw it back to the golden era of gaming, then you can’t do much better than picking up a copy of Trophy for yourself. For Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One users, the Xbox Store lists the game for £8.39. Alternatively, if you prefer to do things the real way, Trophy is also available on the NES.
